Privacy Policy
Modern DOF Calculator does not ask you to create an account, does not show ads, and does not collect your name, email address or any other detail that identifies you. The calculator runs in your browser. This page explains the few things that do happen when you visit.
Who is responsible
The site is operated by Ivan Corax. You can reach the operator through the contact page.
Analytics
The site uses GoatCounter, a privacy-focused analytics service, to count visits and see which pages are read. According to GoatCounter's privacy policy, it records the page visited, the referring page, the browser and operating system, the screen size and the country (worked out from the IP address). It does not store IP addresses or the full browser identification string, and it does not use cookies, local storage or other methods of storing information in your browser. A short-lived code used to tell visits apart is held in memory for a limited time and is never written to disk. GoatCounter states that it does not share this information with third parties. The calculator and saved settings
The camera, lens and distance you enter are handled in your browser and are not sent to a server by the calculator. To save you typing them again, the calculator remembers your last settings in your browser's local storage, on your own device. That information stays on your device, is not sent anywhere, and can be removed by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. After you press Calculate DOF, your settings are also added to the page address, for example ?f=24&n=11, so that you can bookmark or share a result. Anyone who opens that address sees the same settings and nothing else.
Fonts
Pages load fonts from Google Fonts. When your browser requests them, Google receives your IP address and browser details as part of the request. Google's own privacy policy covers how it handles that information.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, it processes each request and may keep standard server logs, which can include IP addresses, for security and to run the service.
Cookies
This site does not set cookies of its own and uses no cookie-based analytics or advertising. The saved calculator settings described above use local storage, not cookies.
Links to other sites
The site links to Ko-fi, Instagram and two other photography tools, Sports Photo Settings and Subject Distance Calculator. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and they may use cookies once you visit them. This policy does not cover them.
Your rights
Because the site does not collect data that identifies you, there is normally nothing to access, correct or delete, apart from the saved settings on your own device, which you can clear at any time. If you have a question or a request about your privacy, contact the operator through the contact page. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
The site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If the site changes in a way that affects your privacy, for example by adding a form or a new service, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.
